Growing competition in B segment has led MSI pondering launch of Swift’s sportier variant, christened ‘Swift Sport’ in India. The launch news is based on speculations and Maruti Suzuki India has not confirmed the news yet. At the 2014 Auto Expo held earlier this year at Greater Noida Maruti Suzuki India displayed Swift Sport five-door guise variant. Rumours are rife that MSI could spawn Swift Sport in India during festive season. Sources reveal that the vehicle was spotted near company’s manufacturing unit located in Manesar. Though,it is also being considered that the hatchback spotted near Manesar could be the Swift facelift version expected to launch in India anytime soon. The India-bound Swift Sport is likely to don various cosmetic changes.
Except India-spec Swift Sport to get a larger bumper, alloy wheels sporting new design, chrome mouldings for the fog lamps, LED running lamps borrowed from the Europe and Japan spec model this feature will most likely be offered on the top end model. MSI could also equip disc brakes in Swift Sport.
Swift Sport available for sale in other global markets come housed with a 1.6 litre engine engendering top power output of 136 Bhp along peak torque of 160 Nm. A six-speed manual transmission transmits power to front wheels. Mcpherson struts suspension is fitted in the front while rear gets a torsion beam.
The abounding popularity of Swift makes us believe that Swift Sport cold come to India, the performance oriented variant if launched in India will compete with rivals like Volkswagen Polo GT variants and Toyota Etios TRD Sportivo.
