Most Indian car lovers have a soft corner for hatchbacks, because of their utility on the urban roads. With a dual-row seating system, these cars come handy in busy lanes as they occupy less road space. Termed as the ideal family car on some occasions, convenient manoeuvring and high performance and fuel efficiency are some of the positive points of these cars. Most automobile makers have a number of options in their product portfolio. Some of the most popular cars are listed below:

      Maruti Suzuki Swift

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is one of the best-selling hatchbacks in the Indian market. It is powered by a 1248 cc engine. It can churn out a maximum of 73.97 bhp power at the rate of 4000 rpm. The torque output for this model is 190 Nm, which is quite good in this segment. The car comes with Four-wheel Drive (FWD) option and power is transmitted to the wheels using a rack and pinion five-speed gearbox. The comfort features are in plenty, which make for a pleasant driving experience. Its price tag is of the range of 4.4 to 7.0 lakhs INR, which makes it quite affordable.

Another splendid option in hatchbacks is Nissan Micra, which has recently proved its mettle in this segment. It comes with a 1461 cc, four-cylinder engine and is strong enough to engage 63.1 bhp power, at the rate of 4000 rpm. On the flip side, the twisting force of this car is approximately 160 Nm at a reduce rpm of 2000. Like Swift, it also comes with a five-speed gearbox and FWD option. The price range of this car is between 4.9 lakhs to 7.2 lakhs INR, depending on the variant of purchase.

      Ford Figo

Ford Figo has amazed the Indian population right since its inception. It is powered by a 1399 cc engine Duratorq engine capable of producing 68.05 bhp at 4000 rpm. The torque output is similar to the Micra at 160 Nm. With similar transmission patterns and specifications, it has emerged as a worthy competitor in this segment. However, what sets it apart from its contemporaries is the price range. It comes in a bracket of 3.9 lakhs INR to 6.0 lakhs INR, thus making it more affordable than the other two.

These cars have spearheaded the gang of hatchbacks in the last couple of months or more. With regular releases from the automobile manufacturers, the competition is ever increasing. However, these models have somewhat outperformed the rest and look forward to doing the same in the coming days.
