Maruti’s flagship hatchback, Swift is due for another facelift after 2011 when it received a through tweak. However this update will not be a comprehensive one and would rather be a mid-life upgrade. What makes this update interesting is the possibility of an automatic variant that will be inducted for the first time in Swift range. If media reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki India will offer autobox in petrol as well as diesel trims. This would in turn strengthen Swift’s position in B+ segment as most of the car makers equip only petrol version with an autobox.

A string of exterior and interior upgrades will be visible on the tweaked Swift, though we do not expect any changes on the body shape and hence the re-skinned model will retain the previous body shape. Among the new additions made to the exteriors. A new Boost Blue metallic exterior shade will also be added to the new Swift range. Interiors will be spruced up too, new seat covers will class up the cabin, a handful of new features such as Start/Stop button, power adjustable ORVMs, front passenger’s window with auto-up touch function among others will be embedded inside the cabin. Equipments exquisite to top-of-the-line variant are automatic air conditioning and anew infotainment system that will enable to play music through an audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, Aux-in and iPod connectivity.

Power is generated by a 1.2 litre K12 engine that is good for a maximum power limit of 85 PS. This engine will be housed in the petrol trims of the vehicle. Diesel range will be packed with Fiat sourced 1.3 litre Multi-jet engine that is capable of producing a top power output of 75 PS, however the more powerful 90 PS version of the diesel engine could also be included in the diesel range. Expected to be launched around the festive season, the car will face competition from all other popular models in B+ segment including a new entrant, Tata Bolt.
