      Maruti Suzukis overall sales in May declined by 4.99%

      Maruti Suzuki, the largest car maker of India sold 98,884 units in May 2012 registering a decline of 4.99%. According to company’s statement, last year during the similar period, it sold 1,04,073 units. In May 2011, the car maker sold 93,519 units in the domestic market whereas it only managed to sell 89,478 units in the same period this year, registering a decline of 4.32%.

      Even 10.88% decline has been registered in the export of Maruti Suzuki for the May 2012. Compared to 10,554 units exported in the month of May last year, the company only managed to export 9,406 units.

      In the domestic market, total passenger car sales declined from 76,874 units to 72,309 units in May 2012. A 5.94% downfall has been recorded. From 42,125 units in May, 2011, sales of the mini segment cars of the company, which includes A-Star, Alto, Maruti 800, and WagonR went down to 29,895 units registering a decline of 29.03%.

      However, the compact car segment registered 14.66% growth in sales. In May 2012, the company managed to sell 24,290 units of compact cars which include Estilo, Swift and Ritz models. The sales figure was 21,185 during the similar period in 2011.

      Sales of the mid-sized sedan, which includes, SX4 registered a drastic fall of 85.01% as the company only sold 405 units in May 2012 as compared to 2,702 units during the similar period last year. Even, sales of luxury sedan Kizashi went down by 76%. Against 50 units sales a year ago in May, the company sold only 12 cars this year during the same time.
