There is no denying that the Maruti Suzuki YRA (code-name) is one of the most anticipated launches of the year. In fact, the company has begun testing the vehicle in the country. To be positioned above the Swift, the Maruti Suzuki YRA will take on the Hyundai Elite i20, VW Polo, newly launched Honda Jazz, and other premium hatchbacks. If rumors are to be believed, the YRA might be named Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
Seen here are the spyshots of the YRA that suggest the car will feature swept-back headlamps, Renault-inspired V-shaped grille, a wide shoulder line and distinct rear design. Other styling elements include wind mirror with mounted turn indicators, chrome door handles with keyless entry, 16-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, a rear wiper and washer, bootlid with hidden reverse camera, a high-mounted brake light and an integrated rear spoiler.
As far as the features are concerned, the car will be equipped with a three-spoke steering wheel with mounted audio and cruise control, 2-DIN audio system, centre console with silver highlights and vertical HVAC vents, Maruti’s SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment display, cruise control, passenger-side airbag deactivation switch, power folding mirrors, heated front seats, airbags, climate control, ABS, EBD, etc.
Power for the Maruti Suzuki YRA will come from a 1.4-litre K-Series and a 1.25-litre engine – that also do duty to the Ciaz and Swift respectively. While the former develops a maximum power of 91bhp and 130Nm of torque, the latter offers 91bhp and 118Nm. A 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced Multijet diesel engine will also be on offer. Transmission options on offer will be a 5-speed manual (standard) and a CVT (only on petrol variants).
The Maruti Suzuki YRA is expected to be launched either by the end of this year or early next year. This hatchback will be sold exclusively via Maruti’s premium Nexa dealerships within the price range of Rs. 5.5 lakh – Rs. 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
