The firm would be hoping to cash in on the performance of its existing car to create a platform for the new WagonR Stingray. If rumours are to be believed then the WagonR Stingray might make its way to showrooms in India by the end of August 2013. There have been a lot of speculations about the launch of WagonR Stingray, which was spotted in a photography session sometime back. Industry experts have sensed an aggressive strategy on the part of Maruti Suzuki, whereby it will look to further establish its dominance it the passenger car market. Apart from this, the ploy of launching the WagonR Stingray might be aimed at countering the slowdown in the demand. Maruti Suzuki is one of the few car makers that have some amount of stability in their operations. No details about the launch of the new WagonR Stingray or its specifications have been revealed by Maruti Suzuki. The model currently on sale in the Indian car market comes in 3 petrol and a CNG variant.

Featuring a sporty and aggressive design, the new WagonR Stingray has a bold front fascia that makes it look more masculine. The highlights of the appearance of this hatchback include a bonnet with a large dam, slim headlamps, revised fog lamp clusters and a slim chrome grille. This hatchback also has grey-finish alloy wheels, new rear spoiler, sleek tail lamps and a new chrome strip with the name logo. The major change in this is expected to be the refreshing look of interiors with black upholstery, high quality floor mats and an advanced audio system. Other features of the WagonR Stingray will include electronically adjustable optical rear view mirrors, projector headlights, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and airbags.

Maruti Suzuki is likely to introduce the new WagonR Stingray with the same specifications as the current model. This implies that the new hatchback is expected to be powered by three-cylinder K Series 1-litre petrol engine that will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is expected that the car will generate a maximum output of around 66 bhp along with peak torque of 90 Nm. As far as the pricing is concerned, Maruti Suzuki is likely to place the WagonR Stingray above the existing model. According to reports, the base price of the hatchback will be around Rs. 4.10 lakh. Rumours have also surfaced that Maruti Suzuki might introduce a diesel variant of the hatchback in a year's time. Experts say that the launch of the new WagonR Stingray will stiffen the competition between Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai as the latter is expected to introduce the Grand i10 in the near future.
