Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been around for over a decade in India and has been one of the most successful selling products for the company. Supporting its claims to success, the WagonR has emerged as third model to reach 2-million sales mark after the Alto and the discontinued Maruti 800. Factors like impressive fuel efficiency, affordable pricing and low maintenance cost have been the key factor behind its success in India.

Reports indicate that back in 2005, the first-time buyers of the WagonR stood at 35 per cent and as of 2016-17, these numbers have increased to 46-47 per cent. Although the WagonR sales had slowed down a bit in rural and semi-rural markets, sales for the Alto and Wagon R increased by 28 percent from April to August 2017 when compared to the same period in 2016. The current generation of WagonR gets variant specific optional features like dual airbags, ABS, CNG and Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR has also been quite popular in the commercial vehicle segment, where it comprises of about five per cent of the total sales. The vehicle is powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine that generates 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. The vehicle is also available with a CNG option which generates 58bhp of power and 77Nm of torque. The largest car manufacturer in India might also introduce a new gen model sometime by 2018-19. Maruti Suzuki WagonR is priced between Rs 4.10 lakhs and Rs 5.31 lakhs.
