Japanese car manufacturer, Suzuki recently confirmed that the development work of the 7-seater version of the WagonR hatchback. First unveiled at the 2013 Indonesian Motor Show, the WagonR 7-seater version could make its global debut in 2016. Indonesia will be the first nation to get this stretched version of the Wagon R hatch. Going by the rising demand for utility vehicles, we expect that the Maruti Suzuki could launch the 7-seater WagonR in the Indian car market.

The 7-seater version of the Suzuki WagonR is also expected to get better styling than its hatchback sibling. It will be positioned under the Ertiga MPV. The vehicle will rival against the Dastun Go+ MPV, which is scheduled to make its Indian debut next year. The concept shown last year features a body style which is extended after the rear wheel arch. However, the wheelbase of the 7-seater model remains unchanged. This model will be a sub-4 metre car, making it eligible for the excise duty benefits offered in India.

Under the bonnet is the same 1.0-litre petrol unit that also powers the hatchback variant. This engine is capable of producing a top power output of 67bhp and a peak torque of 90Nm. However, we think that Swift's 1.2-litre K-Series engine will make more sense for a 7-seater vehicle. There could also be a CNG-powered model upon the launch.
