Maruti Suzuki has imported two units of the Wagon R seven-seat MPV (codenamed – YJC) in India for R&D purpose. One of the prototypes is equipped with a 1,197cc, K-Series petrol engine, while the other one houses a 1,248cc, DDiS diesel engine. The Maruti’s Wagon R seven-seat MPV measures 3,700mm in length that makes it 101mm taller than the regular Wagon R. It will be positioned below the Ertiga, and likely to be Rs. 80,000 – Rs. 90,000 pricier than its hatchback sibling.

Unveiled as a concept at the 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R MPV will compete against the Datsun’s GO+ MPV. According to reports, the MPV will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s new Gujarat facility. Maruti Suzuki aims to sell 80,000 units of the WagonR seven-seater MPV annually.

As mentioned above, the Maruti Suzuki’s seven-seat MPV will be powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and a 0.8-litre, twin-cylinder DDiS 125 diesel. While the former produces a maximum power of 83.11bhp at 6,000rpm and 115Nm of torque at 4,000rpm, the latter one is good for 47bhp and 125Nm. If reports are to be believed, the Swift’s 1.2-litre K-Series unit might be replaced with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder K-Series petrol engine.

Coming to design, the production-ready version of the MPV will be an altered version of its concept.  The vehicle will be based on the Wagon R platform, and share the wheelbase with the hatchback. Though, it will be bigger and more spacious than the Wagon R.
