Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been one among topselling hatchbacks in the country. Reports had emerged hinting that the company may launch the Wagon R AMT sometime this month. Supporting claims, sources have spotted an AMT version at a dealership stockyard, thereby hinting on a possible launch sometime soon. It is also believed that Stingray could also be offered with an optional AMT.
Under the hood, the Wagon R AMT would continue to be powered by 998cc, 3-cylinder, K10B petrol engine that generates about 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. The 5-speed AMT would be sourced by Magneti Marelli that also serves the Alto K10 and Celerio hatchback coming from the company's production line.
The one spotted is stated to be based on the VXi trim. Earlier this year, sources have also spotted LXi trim with an AMT badging, thereby hinting on a possibility that it could be offered on both trims. Major upgrades on the interior is not expected for now, if at-all it happens it could be additional of minor features. The Wagon R being a budget offering by Maruti Suzuki, it could carry a slightly additional cost over the existing one due to addition of AMT.
