Maruti Suzuki has been in the news over the past year regarding the launch of a compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). The success of Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster has prompted India’s number one passenger car manufacturer to contemplate entering this segment. Speculations have been rife regarding the name of the car with several codenames surfacing.
Earlier, there was rumour of Maruti Suzuki naming its car XA Alpha but nothing was materialised. Now, a new car, having a codename YBA, is rumoured to be entering showrooms in the future. Also, reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki will launch this car in India as Vitara Brezza.
Reports suggest that the compact SUV from the auto maker has a lot of similarities to Grand Vitara. It will be below four metres in length and will compete with the likes of EcoSport, Duster and Terrano. Experts feel that though Maruti Suzuki is a little late in launching this compact SUV, their brand value can help them trump all competitors. Rumours suggest that the company will source the engine of this car from Fiat and it will be a 1.5-litre diesel unit. This engine is expected to churn out a maximum power of 100 bhp and the company might introduce an all-wheel drive version too. Experts believe that the car maker still has to do a lot of ground work considering the performance of Grand Vitara in the past.
