Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) will be launching the 2012 Dzire compact sedan on 1st February 2012. The company decided to bring out the compact sedan model of its most successful sedan, the Maruti Suzuki SwiftDzire.

Ideally, the compact sedan version is reduced to less than 4 metres in length. The shorter length of model automatically makes it eligible for excise duty benefits. This advantage in turn prompts the automakers as well to reduce the price of compact sedans, thus making them cheaper than full sized sedans. According to the sources, the case may not be similar with the 2012 Dzire compact sedan as MSIL is considering the new model to substitute the existing Dzire.

Apart from Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Mahindra VeritoCS and Tata Manza CS will join the India’s compact sedan line-up. The new Dzire has been designed on the new Swift platform. This compact sedan model is 3995 mm in length (less 165mm), 1695 mm in width (up 5 mm) and 1530 mm in height (up 25 mm). The wheelbase is 2430 mm (up 40 mm) that is similar to the new Swift model. The overall weight of the new Dzire is 1000 kg that is equivalent to new Maruti Suzuki Swift

The 2012 Dzire compact sedan will be available with the same K 12M VVT petrol engine and the D13A DDiS diesel engine. The K12 petrol engine churns out maximum power of 85 hp and peak torque of 114 Nm. The manual transmission variant (petrol) generates 3000 to 6000 rpm band and can reach up to 145 kmph speed. The new Dzire has been assimilated with the detent pin tech and variable valve timing that enables smoother shifting.

The new Dzire petrol variant will now be available with automatic transmission. For this model, MSIL has imported four-speed automatic-torque unit converter unit from Japan. The diesel variant of the new Dzire will include the 1248 cc, intercooled, turbocharged diesel engine that will deliver maximum power of 73 hp and maximum torque of 190 Nm.

The interior features of the 2012 Dzire compact sedan will be somewhat similar to the new Swift. The auto climate control, modern steering wheel design, integrated audio system with six speakers and waterfall design centre console are some of the similar features. The new elements that have been incorporated in the new Dzire are black dual tone and new lighter beige theme colour for the cabin, wood finish inserts on the dashboard as well as door panels. Chrome inserts, silver accents and leather trim are few other new features incorporated in the model.

The price of the 2012 Dzire compact sedan is yet to be disclosed, but according to a MSIL official the new model may retain similar price tag. First week of February will lift curtains over the suspense shrouding the unanswered questions regarding 2012 Dzire compact sedan.
