Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country's largest passenger car maker, will roll out the most awaited car of the year, the 'Alto 800' on the Indian roads from October 16, 2012. The 'People's car' maker has consumed the Indian audience with its upcoming entry-level car and has also started pre bookings of the Alto 800 at a nominal amount.

The soon to be launched Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 will be pitched against the likes of Hyundai Eon hatchback and the 'world's cheapest car' Tata Nano in the domestic entry-level passenger car market. The current version of the Alto despite having a better engine has failed to inspire Indian audience away from the Hyundai Eon, which possesses inspiringly futuristic interior and exterior attributes. However, considering the initial spy shots of the upcoming Alto 800 that went viral on the internet, it appears that MSIL could be having a surprise package under its belt. The new revised Alto 800 features great new looks, which are significantly better than the previous generation of Alto and could definitely steer the Indian entry-level car enthusiasts towards the Maruti Suzuki stores.

Coming to under the hood specifications, the new Alto 800 incorporates a 3 cylinder and 796 cc petrol engine that delivers a maximum power-torque output of around 45 bhp and 65 Nm, respectively. Further, the car will also come trimmed with power steering and power windows, besides enhanced interior upholstery, leg and head room along with a better gear box.

The most interesting aspect of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is its fuel economy. According to MSIL, the car will give a fuel efficiency of around 22 km per litre on the highways that will shoot up to 40 km per litre when the car is run on CNG. The company will offer the dual fuel petrol-CNG version of the Alto 800 to the Indian consumers for an additional amount of Rs. 30,000.

Over the years, the Indo-Japanese alliance of Maruti Suzuki has established itself as the most reliable car maker operating on Indian soil and many other automotive players came and tried to counter MSIL's dominance and failed. As the launch is scheduled right on the eve of Indian festivities, the upcoming Alto 800 is expected to run the show for MSIL, who had a trouble some year so far.
