      Maruti Suzuki to bring in 500 more workers for the second plant at Manesar

      With the aim of raising the production by multi-fold and attaining optimum production levels for the new and upcoming models, Maruti Suzuki India that had earlier announced a huge investment of Rs. 3,625 crore for establishment of two new plants at its Manesar facility, has revealed that a workforce of 500 people will be recruited in the current fiscal to cater the purpose.

      The hiring is pertaining to the second plant that came into operation in the last year and people from various streams such as diploma engineer trainees and technicians. Currently, the facility at Manesar that comprises of two plants employs around 2200 workers and with addition of 500 workers in the second plant, the production will get a high boost.

      Mr. S Y Siddiqui, Managing Executive Officer (Administration) of Maruti Suzuki India, said, "We need more workers at Manesar for the Plant B. We will hire about 500 people for this by the end of this fiscal."

      The automaker has presently added one more plant at Manesar facility while the set up third unit is still under progress and will be become operative in 2012-13, each of which will be targeted to manufacture 2.5 lakhs units annually.

      In order to set off the workers unrest, the company is in negotiating process with the workers’ union for hike in wages at the Gurgaon plant while for the Manesar facility, deliberations with the union would commence in next two to three weeks. The company has however, refused to comment on the quantum of increment as its management are still lining up the possible wage hike percentages.
