As stated by Maruti Suzuki, the new version gets some external changes like front fog lamps, integrated side indicators on Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVM), full wheel caps and central locking system. On the other hand, the interiors are provided with additional new functionalities that include tilt adjustable steering wheel, rear parking sensors, central locking system, leather upholstered seats, front power windows, illuminated door sills and a double-DIN audio system. A thing worth mentioning here is that most these features are already available on the VXi and VDi variants of the famous hatchback. The cost of getting these adds ons from market comes out at Rs. 40000 more as opposed to the price of standard variant.

While in terms of engine and performance specifications, the XDi edition gets the same powertrains that run the petrol and diesel variants of Swift. The petrol engine given in XDi edition is the same 1.2-litre K-Series units that gives away 85 bhp of power while generating a torque of 114 Nm. In the diesel version, the car gets the 1.3-litre DDiS engine that generates power of 74 bhp alongside the maximum torque of 190 Nm. The company has launched a exchange bonus initiative for Swift hatchback in which the dealers will be seen offering a Rs. 20000 exchange bonus or Rs.15000 loyalty bonus on trading the older vehicle for new Swift XDi version. Since the sales of Swift hatchback has fallen in Rajasthan, this move could be seen as a desperate measure taken by the company to boost sales in the region.

Maruti Suzuki has previously launched these special edition versions of Swift hatchback and now with arrival of Swift XDi, it takes the tally to three. The last edition was the Swift RS edition that was introduced in the first half of 2013. The new variant of Swift shall compete against the likes of Hyundai Grand i10, Ford Figo, Fiat Grande Punto, Tata Indica Vista, Nissan Micra and the Renault Pulse.

It is not surprising to see Maruti Suzuki coming up with this kind of offers and initiatives because the festive season is fast approaching. During this time period, car makers and dealers starts showering huge discounts and schemes on new vehicles so as to take boost their sales. In the past days, the leading car maker of the country, indulged in similar tactic by launching a special edition version of WagonR model. The car is marketed as WagonR Madhavan Signature edition has many other new features and functions as compared the conventional WagonR hatchback.
