Maruti Suzuki, India's largest passenger car maker, is all set to launch the much awaited model Maruti Suzuki WagonR Stingray in August, 2013. Just to give a heads up, WagonR Stingray is an uplifted variant of the current generation model of WagonR that saw its inception in the Japanese market in the year 2007. The company's decision to unveil this passenger car at a time when the automotive market is witnessing a countrywide slowdown in sales has been applauded by a number of industry experts. Auto analysts are of a view that the launch of a new model in the compact car segment will surely pull in some decent volumes for Maruti Suzuki in the Indian auto market.

As far as Maruti Suzuki is concerned, it is trying to strengthen its dominant position in the country. The induction of Stingray is also crucial as Hyundai Grand i10 is being planned to be launched by the end of 2013. Industry experts believe that by making an early launch, Maruti Suzuki wants to ensure enough time for the vehicle to make a strong hold on the hearts of Indian buyers.

Initially, WagonR saw a good response in the Indian automotive market as sales soared high after its launch. However, as the current situation suggests, the vehicle has been subdued by company's own Swift hatchback and Swift DZire compact sedan. Therefore, the auto maker wants to restore the lost glimmer of WagonR by introducing its new variant WagonR Stingray in the Indian market.

The car is supposed to be available with revamped exteriors, which will make it a head turner on roads. Specifically speaking, it is expected to come with a revamped front and rear portions. Also, the new model may come with the same engine that is used in the currently offered WagonR model. This means, the variant will retain the same 1-litre 3-cylinder K-series petrol engine, which has the potential to belt out a maximum power of 67 bhp and torque of up to 90 Nm. The five-speed manual gearbox with continue to stay as the standard. Interestingly, as media hyped the entry of all-new Stingray, the company is yet to provide information on its CNG and LPG variants. However, one thing is almost certain that the car will come fitted with light K-Series engine, which is likely to offer enhanced performance and fuel efficiency.

WagonR Stingray certainly has a redefined exterior with sporty bumpers and tail lights. The thin headlamps with projector-beam units goes well with a flat bonnet and slimmer grille. Car's rear portion too has been significantly modified with clear lens tail lamps and all-new bumper. The car features a sporty chrome strip and is expected to get alloy wheel too. However, when it comes to the side profile, the vehicle has pretty much retained the same old look of WagonR. It is to be believed that Maruti Suzuki has made conscious efforts to liven the interiors of new WagonR.

Refreshing new look of black upholstery with blue trim is expected to come as a feast to eyes. Fabric used in the seats and floor mats seems to be of superior quality. An enhanced music system, AUX-in and Bluetooth are some other facilities that Stingray is expected to be equipped with. The price of WagonR Stingray is supposed to be about Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 50,000 more than the current model of WagonR. This increase in price seems to be justified considering enhanced exteriors and interiors of the car, along with other high end features like alloy wheels.
