India’s number one passenger car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, is reportedly set to spring a couple of surprises on everyone in coming days. According to a report by GaddiWaddi, the esteemed automaker will be launching two new cars in coming months. Speculations are rife that these two models will be a premium hatchback and crossover named Fronx and Across, respectively. While the hatchback named Fronx is lined-up for the festive season, the Across model might make its way to the market as early as next months, sources have claimed.

Should Maruti Suzuki launch the hatchback named Fronx, it is likely to go up against Hyundai’s i20 Elite and the soon-to-be launched Jazz from Japanese car maker Honda. One variant of this hatchback is expected to be powered by a 998-cc Boosterjet petrol engine while the other will be fitted with a 1.3-litre DDIS drivetrain. According to images available, the hatchback from Maruti Suzuki will be tall, wide and spacious, thereby truly giving its rivals huge headaches. Some experts do have a degree of apprehension towards the name but believe that the manufacturer can pull off anything in India, given its popularity and brand value.

While a new hatchback from Maruti Suzuki is hardly surprising, it is the news of Across crossover that has baffled a lot of people. It is being said that Maruti Suzuki Across will feature projector lamps, DRLs and chrome inserts on the grille. In addition, top variants of this car are expected to be launched in All-Wheel-Drive modes. Not only this, Maruti Suzuki’s new crossover is expected to come with reversing sensors, rear disc brakes and start/stop button. In terms of engine options, Across is likely to come in two variants, which will be powered by 1.6-litre and 1.3-litre engines.
