The sales of one lakh automatic transmission models have boosted Maruti Suzuki’s confidence for a move to expand its automatic model portfolio. It currently offers the AT option in three different systems – AMT, CVT and a regular AT. Of these, only the AMT is offered with both petrol and diesel models.

Commenting on the development, C V Raman, Maruti Suzuki India executive director of R&D, said, "Currently, we have four models with the AGS technology and plan to introduce the two-pedal technologies like AGS, CVT and AT in our other models too."

Of these, the AMT technology seems to have tasted the most success. It was introduced with the Celerio in 2014 and is also offered in models like the Alto K10, Swift Dzire and both models of the Wagon R. The CVT option is offered solely with the Baleno while the Ertiga, Ciaz, Ritz and Swift Dzire get a conventional four-speed AT.   Currently, the only vehicles not offered with an AT option are the Swift, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross as well as on older models like the Omni, Gypsy and the Eeco.
