      Maruti Suzuki sales in May up by 19 Percent

      Maruti Suzuki has earned the title of being the country's largest car-maker for all the right reasons. The Indian car-maker has reported an impressive 19% growth in terms of sales with 1,00,925 units as against 84,677 units reported in the same month in last year. In the local market the company has reported a growth of about 16.4% with 90,560 units being sold as against 77,821 units reported in May last year.

      Much to manufacturer's surprise, sale of Omni van and Eeco has increased to about 50.2% with 10,771 units in May as against 7,172 units being sold in the same period last year. Export numbers have also been impressive this year, reports state a rise of about 51.2% with 10,365 units being sold as against 6,856 units sold in May last year.

      Surprisingly, sales numbers for popular small cars like A-Star, Wagon R and Alto 800 dipped to about 7.5% with 29,068 units being sold in May this year as against 31,427 units reportedly being sold in the same month last year. The lesser known Kizashi sedan reported no sale last month, whereas its counterpart SX4 stated a drop of about 75.9% with 121 units as against 503 units reported in the same month last year. Sale for Utility vehicles like Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga grew by 22% with about 5,253 units as against 4,307 units reported in the same month last year.
