      Maruti Suzuki sales dip 12.74 percent during August 2011

      Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the largest carmaker In the Indian market, that has been witnessing a slowdown in sales since last few month, has registered a dip of 12.74 percent in the month of August 2011. The company managed to sell 91,442 units of its cars during this month as compared to 1,04,791 units sold in the same month last year.

      The production at company’s Manesar plant was affected due to labor unrest that is still unresolved. The company currently manufactures the new Swift model at this plant that has a waiting period of up to three months. Besides this, the company produces A-Star and SX4 sedan at this plant.

      In a statement issued by the company on Thursday, it said, "The disruption in production at company's Manesar plant in end August adversely impacted the sales numbers during the month."

      In the domestic market, Maruti Suzuki registered a drop of 16.82 per cent in sales during August 2011. The company sold a total of 77,086 units in the Indian market during this month as compared to 92,674 units sold in the same month last year.

      The company, however, registered a 18.48 per cent rise in exports during this month with selling 14,356 units of its car in the overseas market as compared to 12,117 units dispatched in the same month last year.

      While the total sales of mini segment cars (including 800, Alto, Wagon R and A-Star) dipped 18.34 per cent to 37,496 units, the compact segment (including Estillo Swift and Ritz) fell 26.93 per cent to 16,043 units. Sales of Dzire model dipped 6.82 per cent to 7,856 units. On the other hand SX4 model witnessed a fall of 7.57 per cent to 1,893 units during this month. Sales of premium sedan Kizashi stood at 8 units during the month.
