The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is the Indian giant’s flagship car. The crossover SUV gets two diesel engine options – the 1.3-litre Multijet and the 1.6-litre Multijet. The 1.6-litre hasn’t been particularly popular with the masses and owing to the lack of demand, MSIL had already discontinued the Delta trim. Now, the second-to-top Zeta trim has also been axed from the website making the 1.6 Alpha the only 1.6-litre option available for the S-Cross.
Coming in with a premium price tag, the S-Cross still manages to sell about 3,000 units a month on an average. The S-Cross also debuted the 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine in India but owing to its high price tag, didn’t find many takers. For the cost conscious Indian buyer, fuel economy is the ultimate priority and hence the 1.3-litre engine S-Cross has been the natural choice.
The 1.3-litre engine develops 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque while the 1.6-litre diesel mill develops 118bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. The 1.3-litre comes mated to a five-speed gearbox while the 1.6-litre gets a six-speed manual. The S-Cross now will be available in five variants – the 1.3-litre Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha and the 1.6-litre Alpha. It starts at Rs 8.02 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi for the base Sigma 1.3 while the top spec 1.3 Alpha is priced at Rs 10.59 lakh.
