Maruti Suzuki is working on a revised version of Ritz in a bid to increase competitiveness. The company has enjoyed the distinction of being the leading car maker in the domestic market, but its fortunes have been adversely affected by strike at its Manesar plant and loss of customers to competitors. With this new version, Maruti will be aiming to regain its lost market share in India. Earlier this year, it unveiled the refreshed versions of A-Star and Swift DZire.

Recently, the test model of Maruti Suzuki Ritz was spotted on Delhi-Gurgaon road undergoing test in Indian conditions. Though it was heavily clad with black coverings, it is believed that the front profile of the model has been altered. It is anticipated that the new Ritz will have a modified bumper as well as a new front grille to suit the revised bumper. The headlamps of the new car have also been changed, making the model edgier than its counterpart.

It is likely that the updated Ritz will be assimilated with a 1.2 L K series engine that will be tuned in order to enhance the mileage delivered by the model. The largest car maker of India may also use VVT technology in order to boost the power of the engine. According to market speculations, the 2012 Ritz may be rolled out quite soon, though its pricing remains unknown as of now. The pricing of the upgraded Ritz will be set such that it does not affect the share of Maruti Suzuki Swift but improves competitiveness in its segment.

According to a company official, “The company is first trying to reduce waiting periods of Swift and Dzire and will be launching the refurbished Ritz within next few months.” On the other hand, Shashank Srivastava, Chief General Manager (Marketing), Maruti Suzuki India commented, “We keep testing models for various internal reasons.”
