The new model sparkled at the Indian showrooms somewhere in August 2012 and following its launch, it has been titled as the ‘Best Value for money car of the year’ at the 2013 Autocar India Awards. It also carved niche as the ‘Entry Hatch Back of the Year’ at 2013 NDTV Car and Bike Awards, and the title of ‘Compact Car of the Year’ at the CNBC Overdrive Awards. At CNBC Overdrive Awards, Alto 800 also took away the title of ‘Viewers’ Choice 4 wheeler’. Reportedly, the Viewers’ Choice Award is offered to the model by conducting a voting session.

The new Alto 800 is strategically designed to deliver enhanced fuel efficiency. Reportedly, the model is capable of running 22.74 kmpl, which makes it 15 per cent more fuel efficient than its previous generation model. Besides the petrol model, the new Alto has been offered in three factory fitted CNG versions, which provides a decent number of options to buyers to choose from. Its CNG variants are assimilated with the iGPI technology, which generates more power and provides a brilliant driving experience to its passengers. With its new model, the auto maker has also offered driver airbag as a part of optional safety feature.

According to sources, the model has been a hit for Maruti Suzuki in India. Since its inception in September 2000, the Alto model has surpassed its first 1 million sales mark in mere eight years of its launch by November 2008. With this figures, the car emerged as the fastest 1 million units selling model in the country. It must be noted that Alto has not just carved a dominating position in the Indian auto market, but is also counted among the world’s best selling cars from the last 3 years. Reportedly, the cumulative sales of Alto stood around 22 lakh units since its presence in the market from September 2000.
