In a bid to reduce the long waiting period for the customers, country’s largest auto manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki has planned to set up a stockyard facility at Nagpur. The company has already established a stockyard at Bangalore. The motive of the company is to curtail the transit time and upgrade the delivery performance as all its manufacturing plants are based in the northern part of the country, which results delay in deliveries.

At present, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift demands a waiting period of over two months for its petrol version while the waiting period ranges over 6 months for its diesel version. The classic sedan by Maruti, Dzire, currently has a long waiting period of over three to four months and it is anticipated that the recently launched new 2012 Maruti Dzire will command more waiting period as the newer version will possess at least 150 new features and will be made available at lower price as compared to the existing model.

Mr. Mayank Pareek, Managing Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India, was quoted as saying, "We are only producing 8,000 units in our plant. We should be increasing the production. This stockyard would help to reduce the transit time of other products." He further added, "We just opened one in Bangalore (for southern region). We will be setting up one in Nagpur soon."

The company has experienced a slowdown in the sales volume in the financial year 2012 but the sales perked in the month of January 2012 and it is aiming to set up stockyard in all major regions for making delivery performance more effective.
