      Maruti Suzuki Omni hits Alto in Chennai, lands woman in hospital

      Two cars were involved in an accident that took place on Friday night at 11 PM at Nungambakkam, Chennai. The witnesses told Soundarapandianar Angadi traffic investigation police that Maruti Omni was travelling at a speed of over 120 kmph and hit a Maruti Suzuki Alto. A woman passenger, aged 37, was hurt as a result of this accident. Prakash B, a 41 year old businessman from Taylor’s Road in Kilpauk, was driving the Maruti Suzuki Alto.

      After hitting by Omni, Prakash’s car landed on a platform that was situated on the right side of the road and then eventually stopped between the compound wall of the railway officers’ complex and an electric post. His wife, Namratha, suffered multiple injuries and has been admitted to the local hospital.

      N. Palanivel, Head Constable, commented, "The Omni driver, Ganesh G Patel of Azeez Mulk Street in Thousand Lights, drove rashly and hit Prakash's car from behind. The Omni rolled on the road thrice and came to a halt after hitting a huge tree, at least 40 metres from the Alto."

      According to reports, Ganesh G Patel, who owns a stationary shop, suffered minor injuries and has been arrested for rash driving. He has been put behind the bars under IPC Section 279 (rash driving on a public way) and Section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).

      The local police officer has stated that the authorities will soon be introducing rules and regulation to bring down the speed of automobiles. They further advised people to drive slowly and carefully in order to avoid fatal accidents.
