      Maruti Suzuki Ignis - What to expect?

      The Ignis, the hatchback crossover from Suzuki was first seen as iM-4 concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, while Maruti first showcased the vehicle in India at the 2016 Auto Expo event. Bookings for the Ignis commenced a while ago with token amount of Rs 11,000, and will be sold via Maruti’s premium Nexa outlets in the country. Ahead of its official launch in India tomorrow, here are a few details about the new model from Maruti Suzuki.

      Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be available in four variants – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The vehicle will be offered with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine options. Though petrol is offered across all variants, barring the Sigma (base) variant the other three will be offered with a 1.3-litre diesel engine. Along with five-speed manual transmission, the vehicle is also expected to be offered with an AMT unit.

      The upcoming vehicle gets an upright SUV-like design with halogen reflector headlamps that sit nearly within the extended grille frame. Post launch customers might also be allowed to opt for contrast roof colour in the Alpha variant. As for features, the base Sigma variant will offer features like electronic power steering, all four power windows and manual air-con. In addition to the regular features the Delta variant offers 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth and USB audio inputs and steering mounted audio controls. The higher Zeta variant gets alloy wheels and push button start in addition to the Delta specs. The top-end Alpha variant gets automatic climate control, height-adjustable driver seat, touchscreen display, LED projector lamps with DRLs and rear view parking camera.

      As the vehicle will be sold via Nexa outlets, in terms of safety it gets front airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. Post launch the vehicle will compete against the likes of Hyundai Grand i10 and Mahindra KUV100. As for pricing, the upcoming vehicle might be priced between Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
