As the country eagerly waits for a new mini SUV from Maruti Suzuki, the Ignis, the standard variant for the European market has scored 3-stars in crash tests conducted by Euro NCAP. The variant featuring optional safety pack has scored a full 5-stars. Both the Europe-spec variants get dual front airbags with side head, chest and pelvis airbags.

As per the tests which were conducted, the official statement on assessment for Suzuki Ignis reads, “The passenger compartment of the Ignis remained stable in the offset deformable frontal impact test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. Suzuki showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and those sat in different positions.”

The optional safety pack equipped variant of the Ignis offers AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking). The system covers city and inter-urban transport, lane assist system, pedestrian safety system and radar-assisted braking on the highway. As for the standard version, it comes with ISOFIX mounting points, airbag cut-off switch and a seatbelt reminder. The India-spec model will be sold via Maruti’s premium Nexa outlets, which also means that the vehicle will offer front airbags as standard during launch.

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis in India will be available in petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version will be powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series engine, while the diesel version might get a 1.3-litre DDiS engine. The vehicle will be available in manual as well as CVT option. As for launch, we can expect the vehicle to launch in first quarter of 2017.
