All car makers need to follow the stringent Euro IV norms from 2010 onwards. This may seriously affect the production of India’s most beloved car, Maruti Suzuki 800. The car is supposed to be Euro IV incompliant. Moreover, unconfirmed sources speculate that Maruti may not be able to launch the Euro-IV compliant version of the model. This may lead to the extinction of one of the most successful and popular models from Maruti Suzuki product portfolio.

Maruti 800 sales have declined in the past few years and unconfirmed sources state that there are certain impracticalities in launching an updated model of the M800. Consumers are switching to Maruti Alto and other similar cars. However, company still plans to notch atleast 70000 units annually.

The company also wants its popular model, M800 to survive the tough battle of meeting Euro IV norms in India as its can be a Nano challenger with a minor price cut. However, presently Maruti Suzuki finds itself in a tough position with this model due to its inability to meet the required pollution norms in the stipulated time period.
