The Japanese auto giant Honda is planning to roll-out new compact Multi Purpose Vehicle in the Indian auto market by the end of year 2014. The new Honda MPV, codenamed as 2NH, will be a three row seven seater model. It will be based on the platform of Honda Jazz.
With launching a new compact MPV in the market, Honda is looking forward to rope-in a strong competitor to the Maruti’s latest Ertiga MPV. While Ertiga will be a major competitor to this SUV, the upcoming Ford EcoSport will also be in the list of top competitors for this new Honda MPV.
As per the industry sources, the compact MPV 2NH will be the next generation version of the Freed MPV, which the company sells in a number of Asian markets. However, to meet the competitive pricing levels in the Indian market, the company is likely to replace the sliding doors of Freed SUVwith conventional doors.
It is expected that the SUV will be offered in both petrol and diesel versions. While the petrol version will come powered by an upgraded version of Honda City Sedan’s 1.5L engine, the diesel version will be carrying newly developed 1.4 or 1.6 liters diesel engine.
