Ahead of its anticipated India debut in August, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been spotted testing in Indonesia. A while ago, the new Ertiga was also spotted testing in India. The model will be based on the Heartect platform and will get a fresh set of cosmetic upgrades. Mechanically, the new model will continue to be powered by the existing engine options.
As seen in images, the new Ertiga gets a longer rear overhang and wrap-around tail-lamps which draw inspiration from the Ciaz sedan. Moreover, it also appears to feature a steeper rake on the rear windscreen with a wiper. The test mule was spotted with a set of 16-inch alloy wheels, which we believe might be offered only in the top-spec version. The front section is likely to sport new projector headlamps and a larger grille for freshness. Moreover, the new platform which also underpins the Baleno and the Swift is lighter and more rigid, thereby offering better fuel efficiency and enhanced safety at the same time.
As for the interior, we expect the new Ertiga to be more spacious and have an upmarket appeal with new higher quality fabric upholstery. This time around the company is also likely to offer a new touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Anndroid Auto connectivity. Moreover, we also expect to see a multi-function steering wheel, auto climate control and additional storage compartments.
Under the hood, it is likely to continue being powered by the existing petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.4-litre petrol generates 91bhp of power and 130Nm of torque. The diesel version on the other hand is powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged diesel motor that generates 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Initially, both the engines will continue to be mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Sometime later, the company might also introduce AMT options and a new 1.5-litre diesel engine option as a replacement to the 1.3-litre version.
More details about the vehicle will be known in the days to come. Now, it is to be seen if the company will showcase the vehicle in the production-ready form at the upcoming Indonesia Motor Show (IIMS).
