      Maruti Suzuki domestic sales increase by 2 per cent in January 2013

      Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country's largest passenger car maker, has recorded a surge of 2 per cent in its domestic vehicles sales figures in January 2013. The company sold 103,026 units during the last month, as compared to sales of 101,047 units in the corresponding period of 2012. Further, the number of units exported by Maruti Suzuki during January 2013 stood at 11,179 units.

      Maruti Suzuki's total sales from domestic market and exports reported a drop of 1.06 per cent at 114,205 units during January 2013, as against 115,433 units sold during the same month of 2012. Further, the company's exports plunged by 22.29 per cent and stood at 11,179 units in January this year, as compared to 14,386 units shipped overseas in the year-ago period.

      As per reports, Maruti Suzuki suffered a drop of 10.68 per cent in the sales of its mini cars, comprising the likes of Maruti 800, A-Star, Alto and WagonR models. The sales figures in the small car segment stood at 46,479 units sold during January 2013, as compared to 52,036 units in same month of 2012.

      The company also registered a dip of 6.79 per cent in sales of its compact hatch models- Estilo, Swift and Ritz. The numbers stands at 24,006 units sold in last month from 25,756 units in the January 2012. Further, Swift DZire witnessed a 97.52 per cent increase in its sales a 17,060 units sold in January this year, a sharp increase from sales of 8,637 units last year.

      The sales of mid-sized sedan SX4 dropped by 47.81 per cent to 1,012 units during January this year, from 1,939 units sold in same month of 2012. Further, Maruti Suzuki's Kizashi premium sedan attracted no buyers in January 2013, as compared to sales of 9 units in the year-ago month.

      The company recorded sales of 6,095 units in its utility vehicles including Gypsy, Ertiga and Grand Vitara. Last year, Maruti Suzuki sold just 231 units in the utility vehicle segment. Further, sales of Omni and Eeco models dropped by 32.68 per cent at 8,374 units from 12,439 units sold in January 2012.
