Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country’s largest passenger car maker, has not taken the launch of Honda Amaze in domestic auto market lightly, and has introduced a limited edition ‘Regal’ version of its Swift DZire model. The Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire Regal will take on the Amaze in entry level segment and is expected to hit company stores in the next few days. The Swift DZire Regal celebrates the popular model’s fifth anniversary and the company wanted to bring it just around the same time when Honda Amaze hits the Indian shores.

As per reports, Maruti Suzuki has priced the limited edition Swift DZire Regal at Rs. 5.60 lakh (in the ex-showrooms of New Delhi), and the model will be available only in petrol guise. Evidently, the entry level sedan remains one of Maruti Suzuki’s top selling models in its portfolio and the recently launched Honda Amaze can be called Swift DZire’s new formidable rival. At present, the entry level sedan segment of India features many interesting models, such as Swift DZire, Amaze, Chevrolet Sail, Tata Indigo eCS, Ford Classic and Toyota Etios, amongst others.

The new Swift DZire Regal comes trimmed with an advanced music system, leather upholstery, rear parking sensor and comes in a stylish blue colour option. On the exteriors front, the limited edition variant flaunts body coloured electronically adjustable Outer Rear View Mirrors (ORVMs) and silver tipped front grille.

Maruti Suzuki India witnessed sales of 15,000 units of Swift DZire every month during the 2012-13 fiscal, and sold a total of 1,69,571 units in that period. The company recorded peak sales of the entry level sedan in March 2013 by selling close to 18,000 units. Reportedly, Maruti Suzuki India has sold around 5.3 lakh Swift DZire units since its launch and has an outstanding order book of 40,000 units of the car at the moment. Further, the popular entry level sedan carries a waiting period of 4 to 8 weeks in the country. It is going to be interesting to see how the newly launched Amaze acts on the market leadership of Swift DZire in the Indian auto market.

Shedding some light on the same, a source close to the development, was quoted as saying, “Maruti Suzuki is very responsive to competitive market environment. We have seen it in the past... Regal variant is just another example of how nimble the company can be when it comes to reacting to competition.”
