Maruti Suzuki Baleno likely to outdo Elite i20 sales this month

Hatchbacks have been a popular choice in India. Speak about feature loaded premium hatchbacks at a lucrative price tag in India and names like Hyundai Elite i20 and VW Polo immediately gets a mention. With the recent entry of Maruti Suzuki Baleno in this segment, carbuyers have been flocking to lay their hands on one soon. The country's favorite automaker has already garnished over 21,000 bookings for the Baleno in a short span.

The newly launched Baleno is offered in petrol as well as diesel engine options. The petrol version gets a 1.2-litre VVT engine that effectively generates about 83bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. The diesel on the other hand gets a 1.3-litre DDiS 190 engine that generates about 74bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. Customers looking for CVT option can opt for one in the petrol trim. Diesel claims a fuel efficiency figure of about 27.39km/l, while petrol returns about 21.4km/l.

Until now, the Elite i20 offered with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine option has been a popular choice in this segment. But with the recent launch of Baleno from Maruti Suzuki, that gets ABS and dual front airbags as standard, that too at an introductory starting price tag of Rs 5.22 Lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai), it has emerged as a hot favorite in this segment. Though Hyundai's Elite i20 has been a top seller for October with 11,019 units, the Baleno is expected to take a steady rise and outdo Hyundai's numbers for this month.
