The Maruti Suzuki Baleno's powertrain options include a 1.2-litre VVT petrol and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. While the petrol mill produces 83bhp of power, the diesel motor pumps out 74bhp. Transmission options include a five-speed manual for both the petrol and diesel and a CVT gearbox only for the petrol variant.

The Baleno is just the second car to be sold through Maruti Suzuki's premium Nexa dealership range, after the S-Cross. The Baleno competes with the Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo in the premium hatchback segment. It will also venture into 100 global markets with exports to Europe, Japan, South America this year.

As the demand for the Baleno still persists, Maruti Suzuki plans to expand the hatchback's line-up of engines. A 1.0-litre three cylinder Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine capable of delivering 110bhp and 170Nm of torque is in the works. It might be seen under the hood of the Baleno RS that might be launched in India during Diwali this year.
