Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country's largest and most popular car maker, has registered closed to 10 per cent surge in its unified sales in the Indian passenger vehicle market, during September 2012. Interestingly, Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL), the two-wheeler manufacturer recorded a whopping increase of almost 32 per cent in its sales during the same period.

The total vehicle sales of MSIL climbed up to 93,988 units in September 2012, as against the sales of 85,565 units recorded during the same month in 2011 in the domestic market. The company witnessed a 12.67 per cent surge in its domestic sales that stood at 88,801 units in September 2012, as compared to 78,816 units sold in the corresponding period last year. However, MSIL witnessed a dip in its export business, which plummeted by a nimble more than 23 per cent at 5,187 units during September 2012 as against the 6,749 units exported during the same month of 2011.

Suzuki Motorcycle India announced that its two wheeler sales figures grew by 31.53 per cent and stood at 38,267 units during September 2012, compared to 29,094 units sold in the corresponding period of last year. The sales are believed to have been spearheaded by SMIPL's new offerings in the Indian two wheeler market, such as the entry-level Suzuki Hayate 110 cc motorcycle and the mid-level motorcycle GS150R. The company has roped in India's beloved actor Salman Khan as the brand ambassador for its Hayate motorcycle, which could have been the driving force behind the surge. Further, SMIPL's scooter offerings in the Indian market like the 125 cc Access and Swish have attracted a great deal of fan following among the domestic masses.

Expressing his delight at almost 32 per cent surge in domestic two wheeler sales, Atul Gupta, Vice President (VP), Sales and Marketing, SMIPL said, “We have received a good response from the market for all our products. The growing customer satisfaction has led to positive word-of-mouth in the market.”

The Hayate range starts from Rs. 41, 949 till Rs. 44, 098, while the GS150R motorcycle is available at Rs. 69, 555 (all prices for ex-showroom New Delhi).
