Hatchbacks are one of the most-selling cars in India. These types of cars are generally characterised by a rear trunk door, which can swing upwards for towing cargo into the car. These models usually have a dual row seating arrangement and can generally accommodate two people on the front row and three passengers in the rear. Hatchbacks are most popular in India because of their small size, easy manoeuvring and a higher performance and efficiency at the best value-for-money. There are a plethora of hatchback options to choose from in the current generation ranging from models of Indian manufacturers as well as foreign names. However, the most talked about hatchbacks in town at the moment are the Nissan Micra and Alto K10.

Nissan Micra

Nissan Micra is powered by a 1461 cc four-cylinder engine, which is capable of producing a power of 63.1 bhp at the rate of 4000 rpm. Torque output for the car is 160 Nm at the rate of 2000 rpm. Power is transmitted to the wheels via a five-speed gearbox and the car is provided with four-wheel drive (FWD) option. Modern features have been set up in this model to take care of the comfort factor while travelling. The diesel XE model is priced at 5.5 lakhs INR, whereas the diesel XL comes at 5.9 lakhs. The XL optional, XV and XV Premium are other options available in the diesel models and are tagged at 6.5, 6.9 and 7.2 lakhs INR, respectively. The petrol versions XL, XL optional and AT are priced at 4.9, 5.5 and 6.5 lakhs INR, respectively.

Maruti Alto K10

Maruti Alto has been one of the top favourite models for Indian car lovers, so much so that it has won numerous awards in its category over the years. Now the new K10 variant is all set to take the legacy further. It comes in LX, LXI, VXI, VXI airbag and VXI AMT models, which are priced from 3.0 lakhs INR to 3.8 lakhs INR, but may vary depending on the region. Apart from those, the car also comes in LXI CNG, which has a price tag of 3.8 lakhs INR. The car runs on a 998 cc engine, with a power output of 58.2 bhp and a maximum torque of 78 Nm. Like Micra, it also had FWD option and a number of comfort features. Both the cars have become quite popular in this segment and are set to hoist the flag of hatchbacks higher in the Indian market.
