Speak about entry level cars in India and Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 gains a mention as a budget friendly and fuel efficient car in India. As per a recent study conducted by 'JD Power 2014 India Initial Quality Study', Maruti Suzuki's Alto 800 has been ranked as the highest in the entry-level compact car segment with 97 problems detected per 100 vehicles. Whereas, the i10 from Hyundai has claimed the top spot in compact car segment in the country.
The test was conducted on the basis of evaluation from about 8,429 vehicle owners who had purchased a new vehicle between November 2013 to July 2014. 73 vehicle models from 17 makes were considered for this study. The study was conducted across 30 cities in India. A positive trend has also been witnessed with diesel cars in the country. Sales for diesel trims have reportedly grown by about 16% this year in comparison to 2010. Reports have stated that the numbers have grown as problems with diesel trims have decreased considerably, the current study states 96 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) in 2014 as against 148 PP100 in 2010. Speaking more on the occasion, Mohit Arora, JD Power Asia Pacific, Singapore executive director said, “Overall, the industry has made significant strides on improving the quality of diesel vehicles, especially on core vehicle systems.”
