At present, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 entry level hatch competes against Hyundai Eon and Chevrolet Spark in the A segment of Indian passenger car market. The stylish small car has been given contemporary design and modern looks by the company, which catalysed its sales among the young domestic consumers. The Alto 800 model shares the same platform with its predecessor model, but comes trimmed with superior safety features like active crumple zone and driver side airbag. The top selling car's other enticing attributes include better interior space volume, low maintenance costs, fuel efficient engine and reliability of the Maruti Suzuki brand.

Speaking of under-the-hood specifications of Alto 800, the entry level model generates its power from a 796 cc, 3-cylinder F8D petrol motor that churns out a maximum power output close to 47 bhp and a highest torque delivery around 70 Nm. Maruti Suzuki has claimed that its Alto 800 delivers overtly impressive fuel economy figures of 22.74 kmpl. The company also claims to have tweaked the 796 cc F8D engine, in order to enhance the pick up and overall driveability aspects of the entry level subcompact hatch.

Maruti Suzuki has put dual fuel petrol-CNG models of its entry level hatch in the domestic passenger car market. The company has pitched its Alto 800 range with price tags falling in starting from Rs. 2.4 lakh (for the base petrol model), which goes on till Rs. 3.6 lakh (for the top end petrol-CNG LXi trim) in the Indian auto market. Industry experts have pinned the Alto 800 to scale new heights for Maruti Suzuki India Limited, in the near future.
