Maruti Suzuki is striving hard to maintain its number one position in the Indian market. It has already launched a new Alto K-10 variant in the Indian market and will shortly launch 5 CNG variants of its popular models. The month of August may also see launch of new variant of Maruti A-Star with automatic transmission. The variant has already been introduced in the international market and now will be available in domestic market as well.

The automatic transmission will be strapped to 1.0L K-series engine producing 67 bhp and will be available only in the top end ZXi variant. The expected price of the model is around Rs. 4.5 lakh ex-showroom.

Apart from the AT variant, MSIL is also working on a new LPG variant of Wagon R which will be once again available as a Wagon R Duo in the Indian market. The company intends to have more leg space in the car and is working on the interiors. The LPG tank will be fitted behind the rear seat in the boot space.

Maruti is also confident of regaining its over 50 percent market share in the Indian car market. "By the end of this fiscal, we will again control over 50 per cent of the domestic passenger car market. In fact, that is our aim," Maruti Suzuki Managing Director Shinzo Nakanishi. The company has been reporting its best ever sales regularly but its overall market share has slid down to around 47 percent.
