Officials at Maruti Suzuki India have confirmed that the company has roped in close to 58,000 bookings of its newly inducted hatchback, Celerio. Within three months of the hatchback’s launch in India, MSI has delivered around 28,000 units across the country and 30,000 bookings have been left to be delivered. Almost half of the bookings received so far and in hand belong to the more popular AMT version of Celelrio. Celerio is currently attracting a waiting period of seven to eight months, therefore looking at the high demand for the vehicle in India, MSI is stepping up production of Celerio from current 6,000 units a month to 7,000 units in a month. This increase in production will help to squeeze waiting period for the hatchback. Company officials on the other hand opine that the culprit behind the stretched waiting periods is the constraints at the suppliers’ side.

To further push sales of Celerio, MSI is developing a diesel variant of the hatchback since it was launched only in petrol version during 2014 Auto Expo. Under the hood, we can see a turbocharged diesel powertrain that is likely to equip the yet to be launched Suzuki-Carry based Maruti Y9T small commercial vehicle. In the coming months Maruti Suzuki India will also roll out tweaked versions of its flagship Swift hatchback and compact sedan Swift Dzire. Besides the facelifted versions, MSI is also likely to roll out special editions of its models. Since new models attract maximum sales, therefore the company plans on launching one new car every year.
