The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is all geared-up to compete more aggressively in the Indian market in coming months with a series of new car launches. The Maruti cars that are expected to hit the Indian roads in the second half of this year include Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) Maruti RIII, new generation model of premium hatchback Maruti Swift and sedan Swift Dzire.

The first one among these upcoming Maruti cars will be new generation Swift which is scheduled to be launched in the month of August this year. The company has stopped the production of older version and has already started accepting bookings for the new Swift.

The company is now looking forward to focus more on the diesel variant of its cars, considering the volume sales of diesel versions of its cars. For the Maruti Swift, which clocks sales of about 10,000 units a month, diesel variants account for more than 60 percent. The company is now aiming to produce as many as 3 lakh units of diesel engines per annum.

In the fiscal 2011-12, the company has targeted 14.4 lakh units in the country. However, looking at the slowing down sales and rising competition, the company may not meet this target.
