The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has said on Wednesday that it will recall 13,157 diesel variants of sedan Swift Dzire, Swift hatchback and small car Ritz in the Indian market to replace a faulty engine part. The recall includes the cars which were manufactured between November 13 and December 4 last year. According to company, it will replace a connecting rod bolt that has been responsible for abnormal noise in the engine. The replacement of the bolt will be done free of cost.

It is the third vehicle recall from Maruti Suzuki in past one year. Earlier, in February 2010, the company had recalled 100,000 units of Maruti A-Star model across domestic and overseas markets due to a problem in the fuel tank. After a few months in July 2010, the company had called-back 6,000 units of Alto hatchback to fix an ignition problem.

In a statement given on the matter, company’s Managing Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Mayank Pareek said, "We have robust production processes conforming to global standards and there is no possibility of any deviation in quality in our cars."
