      Maruti plants to remain closed today, production resumes from Monday

      Amidst the unresolved workers’ strike at its Manesar plant, the Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki has decided to commence the production at the plant from Monday. Both Gurgaon and Manesar plant of the company will remain closed on Friday due to the ongoing stand-off at the plant of MSIL’s vendor Suzuki Powertrain India Limited (SPIL). While on Saturday it is a holiday on account of Vishwakarma day.

      The company managed to produce 220 units of its Swift hatchback at the Manesar plant on Thursday, much lesser then the total capacity. The operations at engines, casting, and the car assembly plant remained suspended on Thursday as vendor SPIL’s workers went on Strike.

      While clearing the company’s stand, MSIL spokesman said, "There has been no change in the policy; the bond needs to be ratified by each of the workers before resuming duty. We are observing utmost calm even as there have been incidents of violence at the premises."

      The ongoing stand-off took violent turn on Thursday, when workers allegedly attacked a group of supervisors. About 11 supervisors were injured in the attack. The worker’s on strike at Manesar have however, maintained that none of these was involved in any attack. While speaking to the reporters, Sunil Dutt, executive committee member of Maruti Suzuki Employees Union at the Manesar plant, said, "We have nothing to do with the morning incidents as claimed by the management. He added that in fact, one of their workers was allegedly injured by the management private security and they are looking at filing a counter case against the company.
