      Maruti plans to export cars to Asian markets through CKD route

      The Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki is planning to export its Indian portfolio models to the emerging markets in Asia through CKD (completely knocked down) unit route. Initially, the company is looking forward to dispatch its prospective multipurpose vehicle (MPV) – Maruti Ertiga – to these markets through CKD route. The Maruti Ertiga MPV will be showcased at the Delhi International Auto Expo in January 2012. Later on, the company will also export other portfolio models to the markets in Asia.

      Speaking to the reporters in the National Capital, Mr. S Nakanish, Maruti Suzuki India MD, said, "There is a great potential to export vehicles as CKD in many markets in Asia." He added that "Maruti will act as the biggest supplier of cars to the parent SMC and to start with we will dispatch Ertiga MPV and other new models from next year."

      The Maruti Ertiga model will be launched in both petrol and diesel versions in the Indian market powered in 1.4 litre petrol and 1.3 litre multijet diesel engine, respectively. The components that will be dispatched through the CKD route will also include the critical components including fuel tank, engine and transmission, wheel rim, brakes, suspension and steering etc. These parts will be dispatched through the company’s Manesar based plant in Haryana.
