Maruti Suzuki India is planning to introduce the diesel variant of its sedan model SX4 in 2011. Maruti sells SX4 in moderate numbers compared to other models in this segment which includes Honda City, Hyundai Verna Transform and Fiat Linea. It now faces competition from the Volkswagen Vento as well.
Maruti expects that the diesel model of the SX4 will enable it to capture a little more of the market share. With this diesel model, the mid-range sedan sector will see one more potent competitor entering it. Currently Fiat , which already sells a diesel Fiat Linea, is ready to introduce Fiat Linea T-Jet model in the country, which will be better and more powerful model of Fiat Linea. Hyundai has also launched the face lifted model of Hyundai Verna, while Volkswagen Vento will come in petrol as well as diesel model.
