The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India is believed to be searching a suitable location in Gujarat for setting-up a new manufacturing plant. If established, the Gujarat plant will be Maruti’s first ever plant outside Hariyana where the company is manufacturing its cars since its inception in year 1983. According to industry reports, the senior officials of Maruti Suzuki had a meeting with state government officials in Ahmedabad, in the first week of May.
According to a statement given by a state government official, "So far three rounds of talks have taken place between the two parties. We have offered them land at three different locations in the state."
As per the recent media reports, the Gujarat Government has offered the car maker options at Sanand, Halol and Dholera localities. However, the company is yet to make any announcement regarding this new plant in Gujarat.
In a recent statement given to PTI, Haryana Industries Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said that Maruti’s prospective investment is not in his knowledge. While refusing to comment on the matter, he said, “the business plan of the company is decided by the company and I cannot comment on that.”
