      Maruti mulls third manufacturing plant at Rohtak

      The Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL) is planning to set-up a third manufacturing plant at Rohtak in Haryana. The car maker is currently witnessing a whopping demand for its cars in the Indian market and some of its popular cars like Swift and Dzire are enjoying a waiting period of up to 4 months. A new plant would alleviate these issues.

      As per industry sources, the new Rohtak plant of the company will be having a total manufacturing capacity of 6 lakh units per annum. The company already has a R&D facility at Rohtak and a final decision of new plant is expected to be taken within next one year.

      The new Rohtak plant will be spread over an area of 600 acres, almost double in size from the Gurgaon facility that is spread over 300 acres. The company is expected to invest over 1000 crore for setting-up this new plant. Establishing a new plant at Manesar will enable the company to meet its target of reaching a capacity of 20 lakh cars per annum.

      At present, Maruti Suzuki India has a total annual capacity of over 12 lakh units that comprises of capacity of 8.5 lakh at Gurgaon facility and 3.5 lakh units at Manesar facility. The new Rohtak facility will increase the total manufacturing capacity by about 50 percent.
