The bookings of the recently launched version of country’s largest selling premium hatchback Maruti Swift have already reached the 90,000 mark while at the same time, its production is almost on a halt since last week due to the workers' strike at Manesar plant. The increased waiting period has not only disrupted production plans of the company, but is also forcing many customers to cancel their bookings and opt for other easily available options in the market.

At the same time , Maruti Suzuki has also stopped taking bookings for the Swift model due to ongoing stand-off between workers and management. The company is now mulling over the option of partially shifting the production of this car to its Gurgaon plant until the trouble ends at the Manesar unit.

The new 2012 Maruti Swift was launched in the Indian market on August 17th, and since then it has been the most sought after premium hatchback segment car in the country. The stand-off at Manesar plant of the company started on Monday (August 29th) when the company asked its workers to sign a good conduct bond. In the last one week until Monday, the company has produced mere 435 units of Swift as compared to previously planned production figure of 8,400 units.
