      Maruti Ignis spotted on-test in Delhi, launching later this year

      Maruti’s Ignis showcased in concept form at the recently concluded 2016 Auto Expo event had caught the fancy of many who attended the event. The one showcased at the event shared a lot of similarity to the one sold in Japanese market. Ahead of its official launch during the festive season this year, sources have spotted the Ignis on-test in Delhi. With a regular 5-seater capacity, the vehicle carries micro SUV stance that could position it ahead of its competitors like the Mahindra KUV100. The Ignis would be sold in India via Maruti’s premium dealership outlet Nexa.

      The upcoming Maruti Ignis could be powered by 1.2-litre K12B petrol engine. Apart from manual transmission option, the vehicle could also possibly be offered with an optional CVT. The diesel trim on the other hand shall be powered by 1.3-liter DDiS engine that shall be mated to 5-speed manual transmission. It is believed that the Ignis diesel could also be offered with the SHVS technology. As for dimensions, the vehicle measures about in 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm wide and about 3,700 mm in length. The Ignis boasts of 180mm of ground clearance and 2,435 mm of ground clearance.

      In terms of safety, the Maruti Ignis would be loaded with standard safety features like driver and passenger airbags, and ABS with EBD. Internationally, the vehicle is offered with 4-wheel drive (4WD) system, Dual Camera Breaking system (DCBS) along with 3 cameras located on rear, front and side. Overseas, it also gets lane management system and hill decent control. The vehicle also offers 133 litres of boot space that is expandable to about 258 litres. Fold the seats down and the storage capacity increases to about 415-litres. The pricing aspect is not known for now, but it is believed that it could be priced around Rs 4 – 6 lakh.
