There had been a constant demand from the customers to upgrade the existing Maruti Omni model. The demand has been duly met with the launch of new Maruti Eeco and Maruti Suzuki hopes to hard sell Eeco family car as the most favorable option.

"We have seen demand for Eeco growing since its launch last week from users of Omni and new customers looking for a family car, with more space, more leg-room and greater comfort," said CV Raman, Maruti's chief general manager for engineering research, design and development.

There had been several multi-utility vehicles launched in India in past 25 years but Maruti Omni has remained unbeatable and irreplaceable since it was first launched in 1985. Customers had been constantly exchanging their old vans with newer versions and Eeco comes as fine replacement for the same.

“The demand for swapping an Omni van with Eeco is an encouraging sign for us to pitch for more bookings," Raman said. "About 30 per cent of Omni customers have been exchanging their old vans with newer versions during the last two decades. We see this trend continuing with the launch of Eeco.”

The car has 90 percent localization and has been designed and developed at MSIL’s Gurgaon plant. Although Maruti Omni has been more of a commercial vehicle and Eeco is being positioned as a family car, nevertheless MSIL finds encouraging demand in the market.
